THE HOW OF OW: Do-it-Yourself Chronic Pain Relief & Prevention
Speaker: Wanda Swenson
With a historic number of baby boomers aging, the need to address orthopedic problems is reaching epic proportions. A chronic pain epidemic in this country is reflected in the rise of prescription opioid addiction in both older and younger populations.Adding to these numbers is a growing younger population with muscular-skeletal pain resulting from ergonomic issues with laptops and hand-held device use. Stress related disease, repetitive strain and pain are on the rise with our busy, yet often sedentary, lives.
Based on her three decades of experience as a physical therapist as well as her own recovery from chronic back pain and other injuries, Wanda Swenson, author of The How of Ow: Everyday Self-Care and the Art of Pain Relief, will provide simple stress reducing strategies and self-awareness tools that can be life changing.
Wanda Swenson has been a physical therapist for over 30 years. A San Francisco State University graduate, she received her Physical Therapy degree from the University of California at San Francisco in 1986. A member of the American Physical Therapy Association, she is also a clinical instructor who has worked at Kaiser Permanente in Oakland and Santa Rosa, California. She continues to practice physical therapy in Sonoma County. In her first book, The How of Ow: Everyday Self-Care and the Art of Pain Relief, she brings together her life long interest in eastern philosophies and mind body awareness.
